Teri Watson is an architectural researcher whose work exists at the intersection of design, biology, and material science.. Her groundbreaking research transforms invasive marine biomass from South Florida's coastlines into sustainable construction materials, creating a new language of environmentally responsive building systems through her experiments with seaweed-based cementitious composites..
Named AIA's 2023 Project Manager of the Year, Teri's professional portfolio includes iconic projects for AESOP, Thom Browne, and Blue Dot in Miami's Design District. Her architectural experience spans prestigious firms including Royal Byckovas, Berenblum Busch Architects, Atelier Akari Architecture in Miami, and 4RM+ULA in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
At Florida International University's Robotics and Digital Fabrication Lab, Teri works to explore 3D concrete printing (3DCP) and the integration of alternative marine-based materials into automated construction processes. This research bridges material experimentation with advanced fabrication technologies, moving toward scalable architectural applications.
A recognized thought leader, Teri was invited as a featured speaker at TED x Ybor City's "Expanding Niches" event, where she shared her vision for sustainability and community-centered design. Her educational journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from Florida A&M University, a Master of Architecture from Florida International University, and current pursuit of a Doctorate of Design at FIU, where her research connects architecture, coastal ecology, and emerging technologies.
Through her company and lab βYENβ, she practices a holistic approach to integrating cutting-edge research with practical applications that address real global needs while pushing the boundaries of sustainable design.
